The Santa Clarita Valley is what most parents picture when they think of the suburban dream. Tidy and picturesque developments are tucked into sun-drenched hillsides. With everything from lavish gated communities occupied by movie industry executives to white picket fenced starter homes, Santa Clarita is a city that was developed with families in mind.
In 2017, Santa Clarita was named one of the Top 100 Safest Cities in America by the National Council for Home Safety and Security. Among cities with a population with 200,000 or more, Santa Clarita ranked as the third safest city in America. Kids in the SCV grow up playing outdoors with their neighbors. Miles of paseos provide safe passage for cyclists or jogging moms with strollers to the cities numerous lush green parks.
Not only is Santa Clarita a safe place for kids physically, it is a stimulating environment mentally. The Santa Clarita Valley features many school districts such as Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District, Caustic Union School District, Newhall School District, Saugus Union School District, Sulphur Springs School District, and William S. Hart Union School District. There are several elementary, junior high, and high schools within these districts. Many of these schools have been awarded with the California Distinguished and National Blue Ribbon School Award.
The Santa Clarita Valley is also home to two colleges. One is the private university California Institute of the Arts. Known as CalArts, the institution is known for having one of the best fine arts programs in the country and has an impressive list of alumni, including director Tim Burton. CalArts offers free community art classes for local youth. The second college is College of the Canyons, a public two-year community college that operates within the Santa Clarita Community College District.
It’s not all work and no play for kids in Santa Clarita. Every season in this sunny Southern California community is jam-packed with family events and activities. Summer in SCV would not be complete with a Concert in the Park or a family trip to Hurricane Harbor. Fall is equally festive with pumpkin picking and scarecrow walks at Lombardi Ranch. One of the best things about living in the suburbs is how all-out people go for the holidays. Take a drive down Wakefield Court aka Candy Cane Lane with the kids and experience a little winter wonderland. Join your neighbors for an Easter egg hunt in the Spring. Whatever the time of year, there are always plenty of activities to keep your little ones entertained.
